My visit to Belgium
We went to Belgium on 25th of December 2014. On
the day of Christmas Eve. Great timing, right? During our visit, we were to stay
with our relatives-my elder cousin Nikki and her family-husband, and a few
months old daughter. I kinda felt weird at the start, but then I got used to
it.
DAY 1:
Anyways, Belgium is basically on the border of Germany, so
we traveled by train and bus. We had to travel to Cologne station by an MRB
train, and at 12.05 we got a train to Düsseldorf. After reaching there,
we took an IC bus that would take us to Antwerp. Since it was kind of the middle
of winter, it started to rain and then later on turned into light flakes of
snow.
After we reached Antwerp, we soon found ourselves in the
middle of a city square. There was a huge house in front of us, and on our
right was a small hut, in which people had gathered to see the story of Jesus.
DAY 2:
We spent the 2nd
day in a museum which featured army equipment, for example: army hats, heavy
coats made up of leather to provide heat, cannons along with their balls, huge
guns, metal jackets, the full army attire in the 19th-20th
century, different types of swords, army boots, statues, ships, etc. There was
also a crown made of real gold. In the museum, I got to know many interesting
things, like how the army fired all the houses in villages and that they
afterwards killed people with razor-sharp knives. There was not only army
equipment displayed; there were Belgium flags hanging at a few meters’
distance, and also medieval-time books. Carriages, cycles, furniture and
writing instruments from the medieval period were also featured.
After the museum, we
saw the world-famous ATOMIUM. From outside, it was kind of scary. It had the
flag of Belgium at the top. You could probably guess why it’s called ‘atomium’.
It is made of pure aluminium, and it is in the structure of an atom. It is even
more beautiful at night. In the entrance, there is a very steep and long
escalator. There were rooms for the people who worked in the monument. From the
top, we saw the whole Brussels and part of Antwerp.
DAY
3:
This day was our
last one in Belgium. It was snowing the whole time we went back to Bonn. We
even made snowballs and had snowball-fight!! JJ
